Artist Bio

Rowan Perkins is a sculptor whose work bridges modern lifestyles with the natural world, drawing on craft traditions rooted in self-reliance and sustainability. She predominantly uses foraged and gifted plant and animal fibers to create sculptures that reconnect people to their roots, emphasizing the significance of process and materiality. Inspired by her grandmother, who works with raw materials—spinning yarn from the sheep, rabbits, and goats she raises—Perkins displays a deep respect for the craftsmanship and traditions passed down through generations.

Born in rural western Massachusetts and raised climbing trees and swimming in rivers, her connection to nature has inspired a need for freedom and a deep respect for the natural world. Through her sculptures, Perkins explores how community and the cyclical nature of humanity connect us all. She strives to spark conversations about sustainability, unite people through shared compassion, and celebrate the beauty of nature.

Perkins earned her BFA from SUNY Purchase (2025) and studied abroad at HFBK Hamburg, where she further expanded her understanding of sustainability and craft on an international scale. Through her work, she challenges the societal impact of convenience and advocates for a more sustainable, interconnected future. By using materials that embody cycles of renewal, she encourages dialogue about sustainability, community, and our collective responsibility to the planet.
